USPS Priority Mail or Parcel Select?

When I initially started this business, I would do all my listing defaulting to USPS Priority Shipping for packages over 1lb and offer USPS Parcel Select Ground as an option at checkout. One of the main reasons was that the Priority mail was discounted and the discount would help offset the eBay fees. While it is a little faster, it often is maybe a day more typically, so the reality is the timing is not that important if you get it out the door in a timely manner. It is important to note that the Priority does come with $100 of included insurance, however, the claim process is so painful and it has never yielded a positive result and thus it has no value to me. So I don’t do claims and just refund and treat it as a cost of business. Now I list most everything as Parcel Select by default that would have been Priority. It allows my items to have a lower overall price and has helped increase sales, albeit not by that much. The downside is that it is not insured and that there is no eBay ...

Blogger Spam in Comments - Go home and do real marketing research…not waste my time deleting your crap.

Ok, admittedly I don’t get very many comments on the blog. But what gets me is this business of using blogger comments to put advertisements in them, what I am guessing to get the search bots to think they have more links that they really do in an attempt to get higher search rankings.  When I see them, I just delete them as I would rather have no comments then crappy comments. I suspect they are trying to trick the search engines to think they have links to all these sites and increase their search result ranking…go somewhere else please. Odds are if you have to resort to this type of gaming, you don’t have a quality product or service.  I now moderate all comments and will not approve any comments with URLs in them. Rant over. John

eBay Sales Cycles, Best Times of the Month and Week To Sell

  Most of this is common sense but like everything else, may have variations depending on category. I have been looking over the sales trends for about a year since and now that I am setting most of my listings as Promoted Listings, it makes it easier to see monthly and weekly sales trends.  Observations: Common paycheck periods definitely have a major play with 1st and 15th of the month (starting a day before) being the biggest sales periods of the month, especially for higher priced listings. But I have found to take the best advantage of it, have your listings posted a week in advance if possible. I did a large number of listings 2 days before the end of the month and they seemed to have missed the wave. People have probably already made up their minds days in advance on bigger purchases. Government paychecks go every 2 weeks and can be found pretty easily with a Google Search . Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are generally the worst days of the week with it bottoming out on ...
