2016 Porsche 911 4S 80k Major Service DIY

Image
Well, now that I have time on my hands, I decided to take on the service work for the 2016 C4S. Dealer would be charging me between $2500 and $3000. Parts and misc needed tools came to about $550 and ended up taking me about 8 hours. I have a Quick Jack which I love and makes lofting the car a breeze.  Service included: Spark plug replacement Oil and filter change Cabin and pollen filter change Serpentine/drive belt replacement Air filter change I was a little nervous taking this on and YouTube, RennList and a few other sites got me through it. Spark plugs were probably the most frustrating part because I had to use some combination of extensions to get to the plugs. Serpentine belt probably took the longest mostly because you have to remove rear bumper, wing, and airbox, but easier than I thought - its like a big lego set. When I removed the carriage bolt the engine dropped a little and was glad I got a bottle Jack to lift engine up again to put it back in. Before I took off any vacu

Friend and Porsche Ambassador - Roy Roth and his new Blog (or “Roy learns about the Internet”)

Image
Roy initially sold me my first Porsche, the 2016 Carrera 4S in January of 2018 and I have mentioned him a few times throughout my Blog. He sent me a note today with a link to his new Blog. Roy is the uncommon salesman and a quality person that I am proud to call a friend. He can normally be found at Southpoint Porsche pleasing many people on a daily basis and if not there, probably trying to talk his wife into letting him get behind the wheel to his recent Macan he purchased for her.  http://porschedrivesme.net/ Below is me picking up the car. This was my pre-COVID look obviously, have degraded over time. The shadow at the bottom of the picture is Roy’s silhouette. Update: Porsche had Roy pull the side down, so the link may not work. John

My Babies - Journey with Porsche

Image
This comic just spoke volumes to me. Not necessarily false. From FlatSixes.com One of my favorite car pics. I thought I would hit my other passion.  About 5 years ago in August of 2016, I started to fulfill one of my childhood dreams, sports cars. It started (or re-emerged from childhood dreams) when I got a new 2016 Launch Edition MX-5 Miata (now sold). It was a great car. Later I bought my mother-in-laws 2012 Lexus IS250 when she lost her license (daughter now has it). I liked the space and quality of the Lexus, but didn’t have the sportiness of the Miata. Certainly there must be a car that is practical, sporty, and quality….turns out there is.  I went to visit the Leith Porsche dealer thinking this would be the perfect combination, but the Leith salesman wouldn’t give me the time of day - I guess I didn’t fit the profile of an actual customer.  After doing a lot of research, I knew that I wanted a 991 4S, as new as I could afford with the Performance Plus package. After finding one

First Vacation since SecondMoonshot

Image
Let’s blog about something other than eBay! I decided to take my first vacation since the origin of SecondMoonshot! It has been in planning for the last 9 months and planned out with precision by Mark, a colleague from years past in corporate America. He’s one of the few people I still keep in touch with from that world and he coordinated a 4 day driving vacation, of which I only participated in 2 of the days - the last 2 days were track time at Road Atlanta which perhaps I’ll do next year. The overall plan was for a group of like-minded car guys to meet up at a hotel/resort near Robbinsville NC (Tapoco Lodge) and ride the Tail of the Dragon and many other spirited roads along the area, stopping for some great sights, keeping an eye on the speed limit (then completely abandoning it), and having some great food which mostly consisted of pork product. Pretty much everyone were serious driver with tons track time and I was the weakest link, but felt like I held my own for the most part, a

Some History of SecondMoonshot

Image
Let me give out some history of how all this [SecondMoonshot] started, a small family business created by me and my partner, Zabrina. To begin with, from the age of 13 I have never not had a job, whether it be mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, short stint doing Sunday night DJ at a local radio station (well sorta, more an operator of pre-recorded content), pizzerias (more than a few), office supply and furniture clerk/manager/delivery, Family Dollar as assistant manager (while the manager blew coke in the office), sold Apple Macintosh’s at the Charleston Naval Station PX, and on and on. Much of this was to work my way through college, at which I was not a great student. It only took me 9 years to get my degree (with a probation and a couple DUIs thrown in). Once I graduated with a BS Computer Science degree, I did what we did back in the day, printed out 200 resume’s and sent them to every IT company in South Carolina and landed a job in the Healthcare IT space in 1990.
